My first time Glamping: Yurt on an Island edition
Summer wasn’t “Easy livin” in these parts. I found my peace in a Yurt.
If you’re anything like me, you spent most of your summer working your full-time job without giving yourself a moment of serenity. With Halloween season creeping in, I ran away to an island with little to no cellular reception. There’s no easier way to force yourself to relax than an unstable internet connection, you can thank me later.
Five seconds into Glamping and she looks at you like this.
Welcome to Lakedale, A resort in the San Juan Islands that is home to an assortment of camping luxuries.
On 82 acres of land, I found myself staying in one of the more glamorous camping getaways. This is a ready to camp in hotel in the middle of nowhere. You will have all the advantages of a stay far from the chaos of the city, but without the disadvantages of basic camping. I took advantage of all the outdoor activities their site had to offer. If i’m going to take myself off the grid, i’m going to need the private hot tub.
During any resort stay, I also like to spend some time checking out the surrounding areas. Here a list of things you can do on San Juan Islands:
Visit the John S. McMillin Memorial Mausoleum, as well and the Local Catholic cemetery with graves dating to the early 1800’s
Go crystal shopping at the Mystical Mermaid
Go Whale watching at the lighthouse , a truly beautiful view
Visit a Winery, or a Wine bar
Enjoy all the fresh seafood, I loved Downriggers (you will need a reservation but i snuck right into bar seating)
Visit the fields of Lavender
Rent a Scooter car
Go Antiquing
and of course, Enjoy Lakedale
No photos do this place justice. You’ll have to see for yourself.
Odd fact: I’ve never seen a lighthouse at night
Camping and hot tubs belong together in my opinion.
Rent an Aqua Cycle, pick up some beer, or just snag a snack at the General Store.
If you’re living in Washington, this Island and resort should be the top of your local getaway list. I’ve been visiting for the past year and I certainly would call this an out of the ordinary experience. I will absolutely be returning for the summer.
