So you want to visit Leavenworth WA during the summer
If my black clothing can’t keep me out of the sun, then nothing is stopping you either.
This week I went to Leavenworth Washington, a Bavarian Alps inspired village in the Cascade Mountains. Where all the businesses are on theme, the pretzels and beer are abundant and you truly feel lost in the well maintained brand this town has shown great care for. Although the town is notorious for their Christmas celebrations, we have other things on our itinerary.
I only made one car stop in the parking lot for this photo to occur, I swear.
a warm welcome
Where I stayed, and why I chose to stay there,
Hotels in town range drastically, but The Icicle Village Resort won me over with amenities and location.
Miniature Golf
Pet Friendly
Hot tubs and Pools
the Spa * by appointment
Sports court for basketball, pickleball, volleyball, etc.
Rental bikes - requires a reservation for two hours
Breakfast and an Attached restaurant “JJ Hills Fresh Grill”
The Grill itself has great history behind the name, according to their website:
“JJ Hills Fresh Grill Restaurant is named for James Jerome Hill, the “Empire Builder” who first brought the railroad through Leavenworth.
Arguably the most colorful of all transcontinental railroads was the Great Northern. Even today, more than 30 years after the merger with the Burlington Northern, the “Big G” is still a favorite of railroad fans the world over.
Many towns and cities owe their very existence to James J. Hill’s driving ambition to forge through the Cascade Mountains in order to complete his dream of a northern transcontinental railroad.”
And honestly, all of that is already a lot to do on top of exploring the entire town. The hotel is about a half of a mile from all the main dining areas and away from the busy season chaos yet still in view of the new roller coaster being built onto the mountain.
The new Adventure park is coming and placed right next to the Icicle Village, had I been looking for a family friendly stay I still would check in here.
Downtown Bavaria
the mini golf’s tiny house replicas of downtown
the fireplace suite and my luggage
I won the game by the way, not that anybody asked.
Places I ate. Or at least had to sample during my two day stay.
München Haus, Leavenworth Sausage Garten, Gustav’s, Tumwater Bakery, Baren Haus, Coffee & Biscuits and Rhein Haus.
The amount of dips that are bottled up and ready to sample at most breweries and sausage gardens is outstanding. I’m a dips girlie so for me this was heaven.
Admittedly, the breakfast we had at the Icicle Village was incredible. French toast, Sausages, breakfast empanadas, eggs and all the good stuff. It was really hard to go on a food tour after and make it out alive. Thankfully I live to tell the tale today.
The München Haus pretzel with none other than Beecher’s beer cheese.
my hand is uh, really big?
Ah, how have i not bragged about the kraut selections yet.
Plenty of photo ops throughout town, this however.. is my bodyguard.
I am absolutely looking forward to going back during Oktoberfest and seeing the trees change colors. You can read more about the towns history by clicking here.
