It’s Official : The Krewe of BOO!
This October I had the honor of riding a float with New Orleans’ official Halloween parade; an experience I’ll never forget.
My Bride of Frankenstein costume and a frozen Erin Rose Irish coffee in hand before boarding the float.
It would’ve been arm day a little more often at the gym had I known I’d be throwing bags of Pj’s coffee like it’s my job. The coffee, among many other locally made consumable items are thrown to keep leftover trash from the parade at a minimum. With 450 riders and 15 floats full of Halloween treats, beads and collectibles; the Krewe of Boo! outdid themselves for their attendees.
Tens of thousands of guests line the streets of the French Quarter along the three mile parade route, which I was lucky enough to see from the inside. The pure joy and thousands of hands waving in the air to catch anything thrown their way was fascinating.
At the afterparty with Brian Kern, the parade Captain himself. It was a mash.
A glimpse at the some of the costumes worn by the Krewe , photographed by Nathan King- who walked the entire parade and back to capture the moment.
In the word’s of Euphoria’s Cassie Howard- “I have never, ever, been happier.”
I got the chance to speak with with Brian Kern after the parade and had to ask him what inspires him to keep the tradition alive every year. “I do it to make other people happy.” said Kern. A true Halloween spirit.
The parade itself was founded in 2007 by his father Blaine Kern Sr., the original artist behind the incredible papier-maché floats. These floats can be seen all over the world and for many Mardi Gras parades at Universal studios. If you’re planning a trip to New Orleans, this is a must see event. The experience spans the entire weekend, with many other activities. You can click here to check out their website.
the three dimensional art in all its glory.
I had many compliments on my hair- believe it or not there’s a soda bottle in there.
The adventure’s just begun here in the very Historic French Quarter.
