Seattle Date Day-But fill it with History
You’ve made it back to my third blog and I'd like to say that I’m thankful. If you’re looking for a day trip but don’t want to leave the city you’ve come to the right place.
This week I’m taking you on a date to the Emerald City. Literally, spend a day in Seattle with me. Starting out with getting aboard the Argosy, then ending the day with dinner and views at the Smith Tower.
The Argosy Locks Cruise
Josh, the tour guide spilling all the major Seattle facts in an impressively brief amount of time. 120 years of history in 120 minutes they say.
Departure: AGC Marina on Lake Union Arrives at : The Pier 54 Waterfront
Keep in mind: The Locks Cruise is a one-way cruise and about two hours long. Make available transportation available from downtown for yourself.
S’living my best boat life.
The Locks Cruise takes you through the Ballard Locks. Since 1917, the locks have connected the Puget Sound with Lake Union and Lake Washington. Officially known as the Hiram M. Chittenden Locks, the Ballard Locks is one of Seattle’s most popular tourist attractions. When you get in the lock, the water level drops to bring the boats even with Puget Sound and the fresh water is exchanged with salt water. We loved being the stars of the show for the visitors watching our boat come in.
Downstairs of the boat, is a lovely little bar and snack area which of course we’ve helped ourselves to.
Cheers.
They had a selection of ice cream, snacks, hats, keychains, etc. We went with the popcorn.
Happy pride month!
After learning lots of history and fun facts about the city, the Argosy drops us off downtown where I strategically placed my vehicle.
I definitely suggest this cruise to anyone new to the area and wish I had known about it sooner. Everyone was so friendly and the place was incredibly clean which definitely added to the experience. You can visit and make your own reservation by clicking Here.
For dinner, we drive to the Smith Tower.
The Smith Tower

Your ticket will take you on a quick ride in our historic Otis elevator to the thirty-fifth floor, where you'll step out into the Observatory level. Enjoy an intriguing menu with local favorites and craft cocktails with a pinch of Prohibition — and the amazing views. Click here for more details. (also a 20% off with a local ID)
Sending a late text brb.
Telling the Space Needle to step aside for The Smith Tower’s beautiful views is easy and a fraction of the cost. When arriving, we were greeted by the welcoming staff and began our tour throughout the buildings history and beautifully presented relics of the past.
According to the smith tower’s website,
“ On the day Smith Tower opened to the public, July 4, 1914, 4,200 people travelled to the thirty-fifth-floor Observatory in the original Otis elevator we still use today. They paid only 25 cents for the ride. Originally, there were 540 offices, six retail stores, two telegraph offices, and a public telephone station in the building. Today, Smith Tower is home to the famous Observatory, thirty-fifth-floor bar, Legends of Smith Tower exhibits, ground-floor retail store, special events space, and office leasing.”
To get to the top past the stairs, the elevator operator who we were pleasantly greeted by takes you up to ‘The Chinese Room” where the observatory bar and restaurant is located.
Lady Divine catches my eye.
The hand-carved ceiling that was a gift from the last empress of China.
The brass and copper cages.
The menu featured in house barrel-aged cocktails and plenty of sharable plates. We were absolutely starving after the cruise-pregaming and couldn’t wait to get to the top of the tower even though we wanted to take our time with the walkthrough. We even made it for happy hour and everything was as delicious as I hoped for it to be.
You’ll have to ask Ryan how good I was at sharing.
